North Carolinian, Vernona Hearne, a self taught artist enjoys painting landscapes, portraits and still life. A student of the Munsell Color System, she especially likes to paint with oils or soft pastels. She also enjoys creating calligraphic renderings. Receiving inspiration from God’s beautiful creation she seeks to honor Him in everything she does. |
“Mona”, as she is widely known, has served on the board of three art guilds. She has taught decorative art and calligraphy through Gaston Community College. Her experience includes painting and reproducing old master oil paintings for a company affiliated with the High Point Furniture Market. She also designed and painted wooden decoys for a season.
Her works have been recognized and juried into prestigious exhibits, many of which have received awards. Mona’s renderings are in the homes of family, friends and business associates.
She is grateful to contemporary art professionals and friends who have influenced her painting journey. Favorites include Elizabeth Mowry, Terry Ludwig, Margaret Dyer, Kim Lordier, Richard Schmid and young master Daniel Keys. There are many old master painters that she admires, particularly Vermeer.
